I was very sad to see this. Matt and I were friends on/off throughout grade school, junior high and into high school. We did keep in touch the first year or two after high school, occasionally grabbing a drink to catch up. He was an incredibly sweet guy, loved comic books (turned me on to the Silver Surfer), and could throw a punch (he owned boxing gloves and as kids we sometimes went several rounds in his living room before his mother called time out).

In the summer of 1975, right after graduation, I visited Jonathan in Silverton CO where he was working at a climbing school. He took me 14K up a glacier and taught me how to "glacede".
Great guy with a big heart.
